"Holiday Hoops" 2006!!

On Friday, December 22, the middle school held a holiday festival that included music and basketball. The 5th - 8th grade choirs sang, the 6th - 8th grade bands played, and the small faculty band played. Finally, the staff  took on the 8th grade boys & girls basketball teams.

I'd like to acknowledge and thank my student photographers Tim and Jaron for taking many of these pictures.

~~~ The Game ~~~
This year, the Faculty barely had enough men to play. We found five guys, and played hard. The women had to make some substitutions as well (due to pregnancies), and they also gave their best. The students had throngs of players, so their challenge was getting everyone in. However, that kept their players fresh! The ladies started this year, and the Faculty women jumped to an early lead. They hung on at the end of the quarter by a few points. Second quarter saw the men on the court, and the tandem of Mr. Zablocki & Mr. Langer was a definite threat! Mr. Hatfield and Mr. Moore brought their considerable talents, and Mr. Sawyer kept a couple of guys busy. The combination proved too much for the Student Team, and the Faculty Men built a solid lead. In the third quarter, the Student Girls fought back, but the Faculty Men were relentless. In the end, the Faculty team won 42 - 27, but everyone had so much fun that the score hardly mattered! Awesome attitudes and excellent efforts made the game worth playing, regardless of the outcome!
My thanks to Jaron & Tim for taking these pictures!!!
Referee Jordan pressures Weston to put the ball in play, but there seems to be some miscommunication between Weston & Zack.
Mr. Langer sinks a free throw!  (Of course, it had to teeter on the edge to make it all dramatic!)
This shot didn't go in, but Mr. Langer's right there for the rebound.
Kevin attempts to block Mr. Zablocki's lay-up.
The students got on a run in the third quarter, nearly doubling their score, while the faculty added only two points.
The shot is up - way up - and everyone waits to see what'll happen.
In the final half minute or so, the student team stormed the court, hoping to make some sort of difference. Or just trying to have a little extra fun!
There's a commotion under the basket! What's the hold-up??
In the end, the students came up short on the scoreboard, but not on fun!!!
One final announcement before you go: Merry Christmas!!!
